SPC vs WPC Wall Panels: Which is Right for Your Hotel Project?
Both SPC and WPC wall panels work in hospitality interiors, but for different rooms and budgets. This guide compares them head-to-head so you can pick the right material the first time.
Contents
If you are sourcing hotel wall panels for the first time, you have probably seen both SPC and WPC recommended by different suppliers. The materials look similar in photos and have overlapping price points, but they behave very differently on the wall. Choosing the wrong one is a common and expensive mistake — especially when the wrong material lands in a wet area or a high-traffic corridor.
The 30-second answer
Pick SPC for bathrooms, kitchens, back-of-house, and high-traffic corridors. Pick WPC for guest rooms, hallways, lobbies, and anywhere acoustic comfort matters. If budget is tight and you need one material across the property, choose WPC for guest-facing areas and SPC for wet zones — both are FOB shippable from China with 7-day production lead time.
What SPC wall panels are made of
SPC stands for Stone Plastic Composite. The core is calcium carbonate (limestone powder) combined with PVC and stabilizers, extruded under heat into a rigid, dense board. The surface is a printed decorative layer (marble, woodgrain, fabric, solid color) with a UV-cured wear coat.
The board is waterproof, dimensionally stable, and heavy — typically 4-5 mm thick and 7-8 kg per square meter. It does not swell when exposed to water, which is why it dominates bathroom and kitchen applications.
What WPC wall panels are made of
WPC stands for Wood Plastic Composite. The core mixes wood fiber (or bamboo fiber) with PVC and a foaming agent, producing a lighter, slightly porous board. Standard thicknesses are 5 mm or 8 mm. Surface finishes range from realistic woodgrain to fabric-laminated.
The wood-plastic blend gives a warmer feel under hand and slightly better acoustic dampening than SPC. It is more dimensionally stable than pure wood but expands in prolonged direct water contact — so it is not recommended for shower walls.
Side-by-side spec comparison

| Lead time | 7 days production | 7 days production |
Best rooms for SPC vs WPC
Use this decision framework when you are evaluating each room of a project:
- Guest rooms — WPC. Acoustic warmth, realistic woodgrain finish, lighter weight reduces substrate load.
- Bathrooms (wet zones) — SPC. Zero water absorption, antimicrobial options, bleach-cleanable.
- Kitchens / back-of-house — SPC. Heat resistance and scrubbable finish for daily cleaning chemicals.
- Lobbies and corridors — WPC. Better acoustic dampening in long hallways, easier to repair if damaged by luggage carts.
- Meeting rooms and offices — WPC with acoustic felt backing. NRC 0.55 reduces reverberation.
- Pool surrounds — SPC with sealed edges. Avoid WPC near chlorinated water.
Cost and lead time comparison
FOB prices from Chinese factories in 2025: SPC averages US$5.64-7.20 per square meter; WPC averages US$4.81-6.50. Both have a 200 m² MOQ per SKU and 7-day production lead time after deposit. Total landed cost (FOB + ocean freight + duty) is usually 60-70% of European equivalent pricing for hospitality-spec material.
For a 200-room hotel at 800 m² of wall coverage, the choice between SPC and WPC moves the total material cost by roughly US$1,500-3,000. The bigger cost driver is install — WPC is faster to cut and click because it is lighter, so labor savings on a 1,000 m²+ project often exceed the material price difference.
Common procurement mistakes
Three patterns we see repeatedly when buyers mis-spec the first time:
- Using WPC in a wet zone. The panels look fine on day one. After 6 months of shower steam they start to swell at the seams. Fix: SPC behind the vanity, in shower walls, and inside any tiled feature wall with plumbing.
- Using SPC in a guest room with acoustic concerns. Guests complain about echo. Fix: pair SPC feature walls with WPC field panels, or add acoustic felt backing.
- Mixing two suppliers' SPC and WPC in the same property. Color and sheen drift between batches. Fix: single supplier, single batch, color-matched across product families.
How to evaluate before ordering
Order a 200 m² per SKU full-size production run before signing the PI. ENIS ships free A4 samples within 3-5 working days to major ports — request via WhatsApp with your project address. Test the sample in your actual room conditions for at least 14 days: wipe with your standard cleaning chemical, expose to direct water for the WPC variants, and measure NRC against your acoustic spec.
Once you have a sample that passes both fire certification review and your room-condition test, lock the SKU and order the full batch. Production lead time is 7 days from deposit receipt.
